As your warlock gains power, you spend XP on spells and abilities which shapes the way you attempt to complete each level. There is a delicate balance to investing in your character and maintaining a customized grimoire of spells and summons.
How have you been playing your warlock?
With my first character, I upgraded Mana a few times and had a small army of Trolls I kept alive with multiple casts of Heal. It was fun, but I got stuck and decided to try a new character instead of replay a level.
Having acquired the iOS version on sale, I was happy to support the developer with a purchase of the Resurrection Pack. I've been having a great time with my current character; 6 Rune Stones collected and about to replay for a seventh on Challenging difficulty. My warlock has 8 points in Throw and I invested in Mana while it was cheap. I ride on a Manticore, craft throwing weapons, and cast Raise Dead after vanquishing a worthy foe. I have 8 Heals, a Manticore, 5 casts of Raise Dead, can create 2 Fires, Floods, and Walls, and I've got a Red Spider and a pair of Cyclops and Gorgons to back me up.
I am very interested in learning how others have been playing, please share!

I too rely on summons, but I also tend to raise attributes before anything else. I do invest in a few non-summon spells and try to upgrade them instead of diversifying.
So far, so good, but I've not been playing much on my tablet lately. I can't wait until I have a chance to get back to it, though.

Just recently started playing this game and i am extremely impressed. I have always sucked at build lol so at the momemt im only on the fourth mission and have all the usual summons such as dwarf wood elf elephant etc. Just bought a goblin and dire wolf to see the chemistry and ap advantage but I am overhwelmed by the choice i have, as usual lol. Why isnt this game more popular? I wanna hear how others have played as this game is probably the best trpg i have played on my phone.

It is a great, stable program that is very diverse and requires strategy. With hours and hours of play, you get a lot of bang for your buck. I have both the PC and Android versions - I just wish I had more time to play. BTW, I like the bear, too.
I do have a theory about its lack of popularity, though. I think it may be the Minecraft-type graphics (I know there is a real term for the block style graphics, but it alludes me right now). I know I passed it up the first time through. It wasn't until I couldn't find anything else and read more detail before I wrote the developer with a couple questions. After that, I had no doubts and bought it. I'm glad I did, I just wish others would give it a shot. Mostly because I want more titles from Alastair!

I just played through the game with a build that was honestly brokenly powerful: A highly skilled archer on a flying mount. Once I could get my hands on a bow of any sort I could usually solo the rest of the map while barely taking any damage on brutal difficulty.
The voxel graphic did make me hesitate about getting the game at first to be honest, but it won me over once I started playing. It's really charming in action.
I'll probably go back through with some other build once I've cleared the earlier maps on brutal as well.
Best of luck to the developer in getting more eyes on the game. I think there are many more who would be interested if they just knew about it.

I am playing a necromancer that loves fire. I send 4 to 6 zombies to collect and bum rush large groups. If they die, so what. They come back! Each unit is cheap to summon and very replacable. If they are inside a building I use fire to burn everything in it down. I use skeletons to walk in the fire and grab loot before it burns. I also use a pegasus for a mount for the extra movement. Helps with setting and avoiding fires. Playing on android and loving it!

If nothing else, it'll give me a bit of fun burning everything....

Archer with flying mount is by far the best, but in general I go for a mix to give me utility. Bear is great for the cost. I have 1 heal for emergencies and 1 raise dead to borrow enemies powerful creatures once I dispose of them.
Does anyone know if it's possible to unlock all spells? I don't understand how it works and I really want magic wood. May just buy it as I've completed all levels and I've still got quite a bit to unlock.

As far as I can tell, it is not possible to unlock all the spells in single player. Try multiplayer (or hotseat against the AI) since this mode randomly gives you spells. You can use powerful spells like Hydra in multiplayer, but someone else may subvert them. Magic Wood might not be fun in single player since most AI warlocks do not seem to seek you out. You'd just sit there for like 20 turns as you wait for the trees to grant you crap. In multiplayer, you have to balance the risk of someone smashing your tree or the penalty of staying still and not racing to grab resources. Magic Wood is also strategic when games have a time limit since it allows the player to stay outside the border.

Yeah I've played quite a few multiplayer skirmishes against the AI, it's good mixing up your strategy based on your spell loadout. But I still would like to have all of the spells on my main single player warlocks. I started a second one but so far I'm pretty certain it's unlocking in exactly the same order as my first one.
Would love the option to play multiplayer with my main guys, there might have to be some way of balancing players though!
